Please join Twin Cities Nonviolent, our partners, and the global community as we celebrate Twelve Days Free from Violence. This year, our schedule holds three categories of experiences for all to take part in including live, in-person and online events and suggestions for actions to promote peace. We hope you find many experiences listed below to take part in during the Twelve Days Free from Violence.

Saturday, Sept. 21, 4:00 – 5:00PM: Film Premier of “Hoodnomics” – the story of the correlation of positive economics to peace – a story of inner-city business, at On Fire Ministry, 1950 Douglas Drive North, Golden Valley, MN 55422. This film was produced for Twin Cities Nonviolent by H2O Video and directed by Mitch Waters. “Hoodnomics” is a finalist in the MY HERO International Film Festival. Saturday, Sept. 21, 11AM – 5PM: Open Streets West Broadway sponsored by OneMN.org and Seeds. Taking place from Penn Ave. N. to Lyndale Ave. N. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 22: After a free concert w/ Annie Humphrey and David Huckfelt and a harvest meal by Chengwatana Community Farm on Friday night camp out for the weekend Community Harvest Camp at the Long Lake Cultural Center in Paisade, MN. On-site lodging is available, but space is limited. This is being presented by the Mississippi River Open School of Macalester College and partners as an autumn culture camp centered around the seasonal harvest in a water-rich northern climate. Sunday, Sept. 22, 10:00AM – Noon: No School in Gaza, sponsored by Families Against Military Madness (FAMM). Sunday, Sept. 22, 11:00AM – Noon: A Peace Message with Father Harry Bury and Pastor Mike Williams at On Fire Ministry, 1950 Douglas Drive North, Golden Valley, MN 55422. Sunday, Sept. 22, and Sept. 29, 2PM: North Minneapolis Peace Walks with prayers for protection, cleansing and a movement of the Holy Spirit for the 40 block radius of the church. Sunday, Sept. 22, 3:30 – 5:00PM:  Peace Concert with Jim ten Bensel and the Capri Big Band at On Fire Ministry, 1950 Douglas Drive North, Golden Valley, MN 55422. Mondays, Sept. 23 & 30, 4:00 – 5:00PM:  Pipeline Blues Weekly Vigil sponsored by WAMM and Veterans for Peace begun prior to the completion of the reconstruction of the Line 3 tar sands pipeline across Minnesota. Vigil draws attention to continuing environmental destruction of Line 3 and builds resistance to the Line 5 tar sands pipeline in Wisconsin in Michigan. Monday, Sept. 23, 6 – 8PM: Nothing is more threatening to power…than the people organizing to beat it. MN Freedom Fund is offering Part 1 of a skills-up training focused on the pretrial/cash bail system and the harms of cash bail in Minnesota and how to get involved to fight for change. Monday, September 23, 6:30-8:30PM: Weave Twin Cities Potluck Social. As we live through our crisis of connection, with 58% of Americans saying they are lonely – and with violence and political gridlock normalized – we, as Twin Cities Weavers – keep showing for each other to build trust and connection.  Join us for a networking potluck with “community weavers” from across the Twin Cities at Loyola Spirituality Center, 389 Oxford St. North, St. Paul. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 4:00 – 6:00PM: Third Act Faith hosts a virtual conversation w/ Quaker activist and author George Lakey who believes strongly in nonviolence and social justice. George has led over 1500 workshops on 5 continents on the theory of nonviolent direct action. Register online.

Tuesday, Sept. 24, 6:30 – 8:30PM: MN Peacebuilding Film: American Experience: The Vote, Watch The Vote (PBS) on the dramatic story of the campaign by American women for the right to vote. Join the discussion! Zoom registration here.

Tuesday, Sept. 24, 5:00 – 7:00PM: Community Garden and Canning Night at the CSJ (Sisters of St. Joseph) Community Gardens at 1890 Randolph Ave, St Paul, MN 55105 – behind the Carondelet Center. Join us in tending to the community garden. We will harvest produce, weed, do some canning, enjoy some treats and each other’s company. If you wish to participate in canning, please RSVP. Tuesdays, Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, 7:30 – 8:30AM:  Vigil to Support Immigrants is held where vans arrive at Immigration Court, transporting arrestees from various Minnesota counties. Wednesday, Sept. 25, Noon – 1:30PM: Coming to the Table in Minneapolis: White Affinity Circle – Through readings, videos, discussions, and examination of the intersectionality of racism, its insidious nature and options for healing historical trauma, white-identifying people learn and grow together. Paying particular attention to white people’s relationship with race and ethnicity, how racial trauma shows up in their bodies and beliefs, the hidden cultural and structural dimensions of racism, their role in transforming racialized systems, relationships of accountability and more. Wednesday, Sept. 25, doors open at 6pm: PLASTIC PEOPLE – The Hidden Crisis of Microplastics investigates our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics on human health. Presentation and discussion to follow the film screening. Friday, Sept. 27, Noon – 1:30PM: Coming to the Table in Minneapolis: Racial Healing Learning Circle provides a space for truth-telling and acknowledging the impacts of historical and racialized harm on our lives today. Participants are encouraged to name their racialized and systemic grief and examine the intersectionality of our shared unknown/hidden history, racism, and ongoing systemic harm.
