Meeting of Collaborators, 5/1

Our meeting on April 4 was full of energy and determination to chart the course that will lead to 10 Days Free From Violence (September 21-30).  Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 1 at Matthews Park Recreation Center, 2318 28th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55406.  You may remember that this is the location of our January 9 meeting.  There is a parking lot on the 28th Ave. side of the recreation building.  We will plan to meet from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Please see the electronic version of the form we distributed at the 4/4 meeting giving you a way to describe how you can contribute to making “10 Days” a reality. Feel free to go beyond the “bounds” of the form to describe how you could see yourself making a contribution.

Also check out the “Event Registration” form that details information that will help the Steering Committee for Twin Cities Nonviolent promote what you are doing and provide support.

We continue to work on descriptive material to help promote the “10 Days.”  We will get those materials to you as soon as we can.  We talk frequently that our approach to creating the “10 Days” is like building a bridge as you walk over it.  Please be patient.

As we get closer to May 1 we will send you more information.  If you have questions or comments please send them to twinctiesnonviolent@gmail.com.

Meeting of Collaborators, 4/4

Twin Cities Nonviolent  will be meeting on April 4 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church located at 1500 Franklin Ave. There is parking in a lot to the east of the Church. The main door is on the Franklin Ave. side of the Church.  We will meet in the basement.

Here is a summary of what was shared by the participants at the 2/28 meeting regarding what a Week of Nonviolence might look like. We are grateful for all who shared their ideas.

At our meeting on April 4 we will begin by spending time remembering that April 4 is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. How appropriate it is for us to work toward building a nonviolent community in the Twin Cities as we remember Dr. King’s witness. The remainder of the meeting will be focused on our sharing the ways each of us can support 10 days of freedom from violence (September 21-30).

Please come prepared to talk about what you and/or your organization is planning to offer. If you are not yet ready to make a commitment, please come to the meeting anyway. It may be that the plans of others will spur a good idea for you or you may see an opportunity to collaborate with another organization. Also, there are many ways in addition to organizing an event to help make our 10 days free from violence impactful. We will talk about the many ways to be involved at our meeting.

TCNV Invitation to 4/4/2018 Meeting

Meeting of Collaborators, 2/28

Please join us for the next meeting of collaborators of Twin Cities Nonviolent on Wednesday, February 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. We will be meeting on the Augsburg University Campus in the Christensen Center. (Specifically, in the Student Gallery space on First Floor.)

Anyone interested in promoting active nonviolence in the Twin Cities is welcome. Here is a brief summary of what we heard from the folks who attended our January 9th meeting.

At the meeting on February 28 we hope to engage both our hearts and heads in sharing about our experience of violence as well as imagining together how we can create a culture of nonviolence that pervades the Twin Cities.

If you are able, please respond to this email to let us know if you are going to attend so we can prepare a name tag for you.

(P.S. Parking is available on the streets inside of the campus.  Hopefully, because our meeting is at night there will be sufficient parking on the streets.)

Envision a Week of Nonviolence, 1/9

Let’s join together to transform the Twin Cities into a metropolitan area known for its culture of nonviolence. Our first initiative is to develop a Week of Nonviolent programming for the autumn of 2018. This week may include some of the following:

  • training on nonviolent communication,
  • focused nonviolent curriculum in educational institutions,
  • cultural arts events,
  • forums on different aspects of violence,
  • or whatever your organization chooses to do.

Please join us for our first planning session for the Week of Nonviolence.

Tuesday, January 9, 2018
7-9 pm
Matthews Park Recreation Building,
Seward Neighborhood,

We want your input and ideas and will ask for your continued involvement in planning and producing the Week of Nonviolence.
