World Storytelling Day 2019 –

Myths, Legends & Epics of Coming Home from War

This year’s global theme lends itself to the epic struggle of veterans coming home whole: to meaningful life. Odysseus took ten arduous years to return from the Trojan War. Psychiatrist Jonathan Shay documents such heroic journeys in books like Achilles in Vietnam. The literature of folklore is littered with legends like the Grimm’s Bearskin, where a returning soldier suffers valiantly for seven years to win the life he wants and deserves. Finally, real life veteran legends like Jesse Owens and Hugh Thompson are rivaled only by the growing cadre of women veterans daring to stand up to the travesty of military sexual assault. Since 2003, World Storytelling Day events take place on or around March 20 in more than 25 countries around the world.

White Ally Toolkit Training

We are pleased to announce that racial dialogue expert Dr. David Campt will be coming to Minneapolis, March 7 – 9, 2019 to teach his half-day White Ally Toolkit training to help us build peace within our spheres of influence here in Minnesota. Dr. David Campt has developed the White Ally Toolkit training to teach allies how to foster constructive debiasing dialogues with the racism skeptics within their spheres of influence.

There will be three separate events while Dr. Campt is in the Twin Cities. You are welcome to join us at whichever and however many events capture your interest.

Can you feel it?

We are so appreciative of the time, energy, support and love you have put into this initiative. This definitely would not be happening if not for each and everyone of you. The fact that hundreds of individual/organizations have put together this beautiful quilt of activities that educate, entertain, and spark a commitment so #wecanwagepeace is incredible. From all of our collaborators who put together events, to the venues who offered free space to businesses who covered the cost of workshops, to artists who created and entertained all in the name of peace. Minnesota — you rock!!!

Please send us your videos from your events asap so we can publish them on the web. We will weave them together into a video that will be played before the “Let It Begin With Me” Concert on Saturday, September 29th at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, Mpls. The concert will premiere a new song written by Aane Fosse, expressly for “10 Days Free From Violence” and will be performed by the Aane Fosse’s 4 Peace Band featuring Patricia Lacy.

Please remember to have participants “sign up” on the TCNV poster boards, which can still be picked up at FNVW, Central Midway Building Room 307, 393 North Dunlap Street, St. Paul, MN (It is west of Lexington Ave. Take the frontage road on the north side of I-94 (St. Anthony Ave.) turn right on Griggs-the first right you can take and you will see Central Midway to your right).
